What we believe...

This is a lengthy post, but an important one in the fabric of our church. As a core team, we have put together a theological statement of beliefs. I don't think it needs any introduction, so I will get right to it.

-------

A church's statement of faith is more than a few dusty words on a neglected website. It is a corporate confession--a living, breathing covenant between a group of people and the God they love.

These beliefs are non-negotiable statements of truth. We will not waver from them or deny them. They are the core of our hope in God; a testimony of our collective experience and wisdom. This is what we, the community of Springbrook Church, believe:

- That there is one God, eternally existent in three persons--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—sovereign and gracious in humankind’s creation, guidance, revelation, redemption, and final judgment.
...we know this to be true.

- That Jesus Christ, the Father's only Son, was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, crucified as the sole and all-sufficient sacrifice for our sins, rose again on the third day, and ascended to Heaven where He sits at the right hand of God the Father.
...we know this to be true.

- That we, as human beings, are lost without accepting the saving grace of Jesus Christ, which alone protects us from the eternal consequences of our sinful nature, and gives us the infinite safety and security of Heaven.
...we know this to be true.

- That the Holy Spirit works in the heart of every Christian to develop His fruit—namely love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—and that He illuminates, regenerates, indwells, counsels, comforts, sanctifies, empowers, emboldens, and gives spiritual gifts to human beings.
...we know this to be true.

- That Jesus Christ left two ordinances for us following our salvation: water baptism by immersion in His name, and sharing His Supper as a memorial for believers.
...we know this to be true.

- That the Bible was inspired and protected through the ages by God, and is the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
...we know this to be true.

- That we, as Christians, are called to three things: to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength; to love each other; and to go into all the world with the Good News of Jesus Christ, making disciples of all nations.
...we know this to be true.

- That one day the Lord Jesus Christ will return to earth in power and glory for His Church, bringing His Kingdom into complete fullness.
...we know this to be true. Amen.

"we know this to be true" how?

Dishonesty leads to arrogance. Honesty leads to humility.

To think that God in his all knowing and all powerful self has kept his written word safe thru the ages is one of the most misguided assumptions that one could possibly accept. The fact is that so many hands with selfish intent, the Catholic Church being the leading instigators, have flawed this book. For us to believe this perversion is beyond any one's intelligence. My understanding is based in whole on the grace of God by the work at the cross. This book was written for the purpose of controlling humans thru religion.
Study the origins of the King James Bible. To thine own self be true. The truth shall set you free
